Issued in 1892 by the Shanghai Local Post under foreign-run municipal authority, this 15 cents postage due stamp features the Double Dragon emblem in blue with a bold black Gothic overprint reading “Postage Due.” Lithographed by Nissen & Parker in London, the stamp was part of a specialized fiscal set used to collect unpaid mail fees at treaty ports, printed without watermark and line perforated 15. The intricate central design includes two imperial dragons flanking a Chinese inscription within a European-style heraldic oval, representing the fusion of East Asian symbolism and Western administrative models in colonial treaty port governance. Catalogued as Scott SH 122, Chan LSD3, Michel CN-SH P3, Yvert CN-SH T3, and Stanley Gibbons CN-SH 129. This mint hinged example displays fresh gum, deep original color, and a crisp centrally placed overprint, with intact perforations and minor hinge mark on reverse. Estimate "$95 – 120"
