China 1886, rare multiple from the French Post Office in China, issued under the Type Alphée Dubois design for French Indochina. This block features the 5 centimes denomination in black with overprint for use in Chinese treaty ports. Printed using typography by the Imprimerie Nationale in Paris, the stamp presents an allegorical depiction of Commerce as a seated female figure amid symbols of trade—flora, maritime motifs, and mythological references. Measuring 20 x 24 mm, with line perforation 14 x 13½ and no watermark, this is part of the first French colonial omnibus issue. The overprint signifies adaptation for local use under extraterritorial postal authority. Mint never hinged, with full original gum and well-aligned margins, extremely scarce in block format. Cataloged under Michel FR-CC 4, Scott FR-CC 4, Yvert et Tellier FR-CC 4, and Stanley Gibbons FR-CC 4. Estimate "$325 – 400"
